FAQ
Manufacturing and Materials
Where are LunchBots manufactured?
LunchBots food containers are designed in Northern California and responsibly manufactured in Asia. The Uno, Duo, Trio, Quad, and Dips are manufactured in China. The Thermals are made in Taiwan and the LunchBots Clicks are made in Korea.
What materials are LunchBots made from?
LunchBots lids and containers are manufactured from the highest quality, food-grade, Type 304 stainless steel. Stainless steel, an alloy made from natural elements, is one of the safest materials for food storage and handling. Commonly known as 18/8 stainless, Type 304 stainless steel resists stains and rust and is both easy to clean and durable. All LunchBots products are BPA-free. The lids for our Thermals and Clicks are made from polypropylene with a silicone seal.
Tell me about the paint on the lids.
The tops of the colored LunchBots lids have been powder coated. Powder coating is a durable finish that does not emit any volatile organic compounds (VOC). The coating is applied electrostatically and then cured in an oven. Any resulting overspray is recycled and reused. The bottom of each lid is not powder coated and is natural stainless steel.
Use and Cleaning
Can LunchBots go in the dishwasher?
Colored lids must be handwashed. Containers and all non-colored stainless steel lids can go in the dishwasher. Thermal food containers should also be handwashed to prevent water retention in the container base. The LunchBots Clicks are dishwasher safe.
Are LunchBots watertight?
The LunchBots lids fit snugly, but they are not watertight. If the food containers will be tossed around in a backpack, we recommend packing dry foods only. However, LunchBots Thermals are watertight and so are our LunchBots Clicks and Dips.
Can LunchBots go in the microwave? Oven? Freezer?
Because they are made of metal, LunchBots should not go in the microwave. Do not put LunchBots in the oven either as the containers will become dangerously hot. LunchBots should not be put in the freezer, however the refrigerator is fine.
Will LunchBots keep food hot?
LunchBots food containers are made from a single layer of stainless steel and are not designed to keep food warm. We do not recommend that you store hot food in them as the container will get very hot. However, our LunchBots Thermal insulated food container will keep food warm for four to five hours. For greatest heat retention, we recommend you preheat the LunchBots Thermal by filling with boiling water for a few minutes before usage.
Are LunchBots durable?
Stainless steel is extremely durable, however, if LunchBots are dropped on a hard surface, the color on the lids may chip or scratch.
